| Kayak Mountaineering Expedition Details | ||
We've combined two of our favorite adventures, sea kayaking and climbing. Our Senior Guide, Mike, gets all the credit for coming up with this one. For years while leading our kayak trips, he's been scoping out the peaks and glaciers from the water. Yeah, it took him about 5 years to come up with the idea but anyway... You'll get dropped off by water taxi back in Blackstone Bay, one of our favorite kayaking destinations in Prince William Sound. From our first Base Camp, you'll hear the rumblings of the nearby glaciers calving into the sea and watch the ice bergs floating by on the tide. We've scheduled this trip for early in the season, there could be snow on the ground all the way down to the high tide line! Over the next 7 days you'll learn mountaineering skills, get high above the bay for spectacular views, maybe even try out ice climbing on a glacier. Oh yeah, there's also the kayaking. Paddle through the chunks of ice from the glaciers, look for wildlife, explore the rainforest. You might shop around and find another tour that includes some kayaking and climbing, but the way we've combined the two is a unique adventure.
Extras - WIthout the extra cost: Rubber boots, Heavy-duty Prince William Sound-capable rain gear, dry bags for your gear. Ice axes, crampons, harnesses, helmets.

We'll pick you up in Anchorage on the morning of Day 1. After a gear check, we'll enjoy a spectacular drive south along Turnagain Arm and through a mountain to the town of Whittier. Here we'll get outfitted with boats and gear and board the water taxi for the trip to Blackstone Bay. Exact itineraries will vary due to weather conditions and the capabilities of the team, but we'll have plenty of time to explore this spectacular area. We use top-quality fiberglass kayaks (usually doubles) which are beginner-friendly, and great for carrying loads. You'll enjoy delicious meals prepared by your guides in surprisingly comfortable wilderness camps. Needless to say, you'll eat pretty well! No prior paddling or climbing experience is required.
